West New York Lions Club, Union De Ex-Presos Politicos De Cuba And HackensackUMC Palisades Celebrate José Martí Day
Each year on January 28, the West New York Lions Club and Ex-Presos Politicos de Cuba honor Cuban leader José Martí's birthday by donating gifts and baby care items to the families of newborn babies born at HackensackUMC Palisades.
This year, West New York Lions Club members proudly delivered their generous donation to Maria Genao and Jose Enrique Perez of West New York, NJ, on the birth of their baby girl, Elacia Perez.
Union de Ex-Presos Politicos de Cuba members delivered donations to Lorena Castellanos and Guillermo Blanco of West New York, NJ, on the birth of their baby boy, Jefferson Blanco; and they also delivered a donation to Gloria Ramirez de Castillo and Juan Castillo of Union City, NJ, on the birth of their baby girl, Melany Yaritza Castillo.
About José Martí (January 28, 1853 – May 19, 1895)
José Martí was a leader of the Cuban independence movement from Spain and as well a renowned poet and writer. He is considered the national hero of Cuba and often referred to as the "Apostle of Cuban Independence."
