The days of waiting for hours in the Emergency Room for treatment are over — if you're a patient at Palisades Medical Center.

At Palisades, emergency patients wait minutes – not hours – for a medical exam after entering our ER doors. Our Rapid Evaluation Unit (REU) and investments in technology allow us to assess incoming patients much more efficiently, and provide services such as faster triage, immediate bedding and bedside registration.

In addition to the Rapid Evaluation Unit, the Emergency Department at Palisades also features:

• A Co-Management System that partners an Administrative Director with a Clinical Director to work in tandem to ensure continuity in patient care.

• A Vital Works computer technology system that tracks all emergency patients during their most critical times, allowing the medical team to have up-to-the-minute status reports, including laboratory and radiology results

Miracle On The Hudson

When U.S. Airways Flight 1549 plunged into the Hudson River on January 15, 2009, passenger Dave Sanderson did not think he would make it out of the frigid waters alive. But all 155 passengers and crew aboard survived in what was quickly dubbed the "Miracle on the Hudson."

"A tragedy could have happened on January 15, but instead a miracle occurred," said Sanderson, who suffered severe hypothermia when he stood in the frigid water helping passengers transfer from the plane to a raft. "That miracle would never have happened without the (New York Waterway) ferry boats and the other first responders that were there that day. I'm really bonded to Palisades Medical Center and the first responders. You don't realize how lucky you are to have people take care of you like this."
