Emergency Care

Because of our location on the Hudson River – near the George Washington Bridge, Lincoln Tunnel, and major highways – Palisades Medical Center offers our communities convenient access to care when they need it most.

Miracle on the Hudson

When U.S. Airways Flight 1549 plunged into the Hudson River on January 15, 2009, passenger Dave Sanderson did not think he would make it out of the frigid waters alive. But all 155 passengers and crew aboard survived in what was quickly dubbed the "Miracle on the Hudson."

"A tragedy could have happened on January 15, but instead a miracle occurred," said Sanderson, who suffered severe hypothermia when he stood in the frigid water helping passengers transfer from the plane to a raft. "That miracle would never have happened without the (New York Waterway) ferry boats and the other first responders that were there that day. I'm really bonded to Palisades Medical Center and the first responders. You don't realize how lucky you are to have people take care of you like this."

Over 35,000 patients come to us each year for life-saving care, administered by board-certified emergency medicine specialists. A heliport on our property provides additional access to our hospital.

Our emergency department features 10,000 square feet of space for patient treatment, trauma, and triage, with special accommodations for obstetrics/gynecology care, orthopedics, and psychiatric trauma. It is equipped with the latest technology, a team of medical professionals and a patient-centered system that accelerates treatment and ensures quality when you need it most.

A decontamination shower – the first of its kind in Hudson County – is used to treat individuals involved in industrial accidents.

14 Minutes from Door to Doctor

As an added benefit, a separate Fast Track program in our new emergency department is reserved for the prompt treatment of minor illnesses and injuries. 14 minutes is the statistical average waiting time for all patient visits in the Emergency Department of Palisades Medical Center.
