Chaplain Assistant Program (CAP)
In an effort to provide patients with a comprehensive spiritual and medical health care experience, Palisades Medical Center has established the Chaplain Assistant Program (CAP). This 10-week course teaches Eucharistic ministers, lay ministers, clergy, seminarians, and leaders of various religions to minister to a spiritually diverse population — and in turn, it provides training for healthcare staff on cultural issues in end-of-life care, and initial spiritual assessments. Participants enrolled in the Chaplain Assistant Program who complete 160 contact clinical hours will receive a certificate from the Department of Pastoral Care & Education at Palisades Medical Center certifying competencies in pastoral care and crisis intervention.
At the completion of the certification training, participants who wish to receive the Master of Pastoral Counseling with The Graduate Theological Foundation must submit a copy of the Certificate, a transcript of the training, and a letter of recommendation from the Director of Pastoral Care & Education. Upon receipt of this documentation and the payment of the tuition fees, the Applicant will be awarded the M.P.C.
(Students may also be admitted into the M.P.C. program prior to completing the Chaplain Assistant Certification Program but must complete the program before earning a GTF M.P.C. degree.)
The Graduate Theological Foundation is a full member of the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education and belongs to a variety of professional associations in the field of counseling and pastoral care both this country and abroad including the Association of American Colleges and Universities and the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education. Graduate Theological Foundation has been an affiliated institution of Oxford University since 1994 and the Centro Pro Unione in Rome since 1988, and has a "Recognized and Endorsed" relationship with the Mayo Clinic.
New Brunswick Theological Seminary will grant credits towards the supervised requirements for the Master of Divinity degree after the completion of theChaplain Assistant Program.
