Elizabeth Balabat, RN, BSN
Over 30 years of nursing experience in Emergency Room, ICU, Medical-Surgical, Supervision, Sports Medicine. Certified BCLS Instructor.
Rose Marie Bauer, RN, C, MS
Over 30 years of nursing experience in Maternal Child Health, Case Management and Education. Certified in Perinatal Nursing, Childbirth Education, BCLS Instructor and NRP Instructor. Member of NJSNA, NNSDO and AWHONN.
Lux Ramos, RN, MSN, APN-C
Over 30 years of nursing experience in Emergency Room, Medical Surgical ICU/CCU, NICU, PACU, L&D, Hemodialysis and Thoracic Surgery. Certified in CCRN, CEN, FNP-BC, and BCLS Instructor. Member of the New Jersey Board of Nursing.
Continuing Education Courses
The following courses will have continuing education credits supplied. In order to obtain CE credits you must attend 80% of the program. Palisades Medical Center is an approved provider of continuing education by the New Jersey State Nurses Association, Provider Number P198-12/07-10. NJSNA is accredited by the ANCC Commission on Accreditation of the American Nurses' Association.
Preceptor Workshop
Instructor: Elizabeth Balatbat, RN, BSN
This one-day, 6.6-contact-hour workshop prepares staff to precept newly hired employees. Content includes adult learning principles, competency assessment, assessment, providing feedback, clinical evaluation and documentation. Prerequisites are one year's experience and recommendation from their supervisor.
Hours are 7:00 am–3:00 pm. Fee for non-PMC staff is $100.00.
Charge Nurse Workshop
Instructor: Rose Marie Bauer, RN, C, MS
This one-day, 6.8-contact-hour workshop prepares the RN for assuming the role of charge nurse. Content includes adult learning principles, competency assessment, providing feedback, clinical evaluation and documentation. Prerequisites are one year's experience and recommendation from their supervisor.
Hours are 8:00 am–4:00 pm. Fee for non-PMC staff is $125.00.

Critical Care Course
Instructor: Luz Ramos, RN, MSN, APN-C
This six-day, 37.2-contact-hour course utilizes a systematic format to address care of the critically ill patient. Systems included: cardio-vascular, pulmonary, GI/GU, endocrine, nervous, and renal. Prerequisite is basic EKG course.
Hours are 8:00 am–4:00 pm. Pre-registration is required; call (201) 854-5244. Fee for non-PMC staff is $400.00.

Basic Arrhythmia Course
This two-day, 11.2-contact-hour course provides the nurse with basic knowledge in interpreting cardiac monitor strips. Content includes competency assessment, clinical evaluation and documentation. Hours are 8:00 am–4:00 pm. Pre-registration is required; call (201) 854-5244.
Fee for non-PMC staff is $150.00.

IV Therapy Course
Instructor: Elizabeth Balabat, RN, BSN
This one-day, 6.5-contact-hour course provides the RN/LPN with the clinical knowledge and skills necessary so that he/she may practice IV therapy. Content includes competency assessment, clinical evaluation, documentation and demonstration of skills. Hours are 7:00 am–3:00 pm. Pre-registration is required; call (201) 854-5244.

Herbal Supplements and Drug Interactions
Instructor: Elizabeth Balabat, RN, BSN
This 1.5-hour, 1.2-contact-hour class provides basic herbal classifications, actions and precautions, and food interactions. Hours are 10:00 am–11:30 am. Pre-registration is required; call (201) 854-5244.
Fee for non-PMC staff is $20.00.
NRP Course
Instructor: Rose Marie Bauer, RN, C, MS
NRP is a course offered by the American Academy of Pediatrics and American Heart Association.
It requires a written evaluation and demonstration of skills in initial newborn resuscitation, equipment, ventilation, chest compressions, endotracheal intubation and medication.
Pre-registration is required ; call (201) 854-5244.
The fee for non-PMC employees is $125.00 (initial), $65.00 (renewal).

Heart Saver AED — Initial

Heart Saver is a course offered by the American Heart Association for healthcare staff. It requires a demonstration of skills in CPR and foreign body obstruction for adults and children.

Heart Saver AED — Renewal
Instructor: Elizabeth Balabat, RN, BSN
This program is offered for all that are currently Heart Saver AED-certified. Rnewal must be completed prior to the certification expiration date. All participants must successfully demonstrate skills.

Renewal BCLS for Healthcare Providers

BCLS Programs (Initial BCLS for Healthcare Providers)

This course offers initial certification to healthcare providers. Content includes: one-man and two-man CPR, obstructed airway, bag-mask ventilation, child and infant CPR and AED. Simulated testing and written exam must be completed. Registration is required.
